CBA Launches New Services to Industry
The Chemical Business Association (CBA) has made available to industry a broad range of new services designed to support chemical companies in developing and maintaining their levels of compliance.
In difficult economic climates important training and planning may be hard to justify. Recognising that larger companies benefit from maintaining the levels of expertise within their staff and for smaller companies there is a need for external support of their Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, CBA has developed a series of cost-effective modules that will enable companies to continue to develop their organisations over the coming months. CBA has already been approached both by members and non members for provision of these and other services on a consultancy basis. A number of projects ranging from Chemicals Handling to the Legal Aspects of Carriage of Dangerous Goods (CDG) Regulations have already been completed.
CBA’s decision to broaden the range of services is directly related to the current economic downturn. CBA Director, Peter Newport, said “We wanted to respond pro-actively to the current situation and offer help where it is most needed. We didn’t want to just sit at our desks whilst the industry’s resources are under pressure. CBA will of course still be providing advice and information to CBA member companies free of charge, but this additional new set of services offers dedicated work at members’ sites.”
Initially CBA is offering four key services on a consultancy basis:
- Environmental Appraisals
- Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser Services
- Emergency Response Plans and Audit
- Safe Handling of Chemicals
CBA will provide a compliance appraisal, relevant training and an action plan for each company. The industry has an excellent compliance record, but at times of intense commercial pressure, employing outside expertise to implement or assess systems and procedures is a cost effective investment. CBA services can be delivered to groups of employees, thereby increasing the benefit of the training exercise.
CBA’s consultancy is delivered on site, may be tailored to the particular business and is available to any supply chain company – Manufacturers, blenders, warehouses, sales offices, distributors and logistics companies.
This is one of the initiatives that CBA is undertaking in order to increase support of the UK chemical industry through the current downturn, to ensure that companies are well positioned to continue to trade safely and legally and to take full advantage of markets when they begin to recover.
