Supply chains in China are being equipped with RFID technology in the single largest area of investment into tracking for logistics.

Supply chain news from IDTechEx notes that China is currently undertaking the largest investment worldwide into the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) for logistics and deliveries.

The supply chain news from the RFID industry analyst's chair, Dr Peter Harrop, explains that the investment is part of attempts to reassert "the nation's pre-eminence in manufacturing".

Factories are also receiving RFID technologies in order to work as an integral part of the newly improved supply chain in China.

However, investment continues in the West, with the US currently putting the most money into RFID technologies across the board.

The UK also ranks highly in terms of early adopters of the contactless technology, appearing with Germany and Japan - along with the US and China - to complete the five countries making the most use of RFID.

IDTechEx previously noted that major retailer Wal-Mart is expecting to derive environmental benefits from the use of RFID in its supply chain by raising efficiency and eliminating unnecessary journeys.
