Supply chain issues 'driving company support'

Companies are supporting their suppliers to prevent supply chain issues arising from the financial turbulence.
Supply chain issues are changing the ways in which companies support their partners, according to new research.
The Supply Chain Standard reports that many companies are offering financial assistance to their suppliers in order to diminish the impact of supply chain issues on their day-to-day operations.
Consultant PRTM notes the trend in its new report, Global Supply Chain Trends 2008-2010: Extended Edition.
Gordon Colborn, director of PRTM's global supply chain innovation practice, tells the supply chain magazine: "Faced with increasingly unpredictable demand and tighter requirements from lenders, companies are forced to look at all activities through the lens of liquidity."
As a result, 45 per cent of those surveyed have tackled supply chain issues by revising payment terms while three-quarters have helped to make sure deliveries are made successfully.
The supply chain magazine previously reported research by purchase-to-pay process automation software provider Basware which claimed that chief financial officers worldwide are currently neglecting supply chain issues in favour of making greater cost savings.
