Gist to operate long-distance supply chain for DFG
10/07/2009 16:30:00

The Dutch Flower Group has awarded a long-distance supply chain contract to Gist.

Supply chain news from the Dutch Flower Group (DFG) reveals that Gist has been awarded the contract for its 36-hour delivery route to the UK from Colombia.

According to the Supply Chain Standard, Gist is to transport 200 tonnes of flowers to the UK by air from the South American country.

The supply chain magazine notes that this extends a previous partnership between DFG and Gist for the delivery of flowers from the Netherlands.

"Gist has been working with the flower company for more than five years," the supply chain news provider observes.

It adds that Gist "began by bringing around 100 temperature-controlled loads of cut flowers per week from Holland into the UK".

Now, however, cargo space in passenger jets and dedicated air freighters are to deliver flowers grown in Colombia in around a day and a half.

Gist was given further reason to celebrate this week after it was named as the recipient of five accolades at the learndirect Achievement Awards 2009 and the Motor Transport Awards 2009 for its performance as an employer and dedication to training and safety.
