Food supply chains are a major area for adoption of RFID, according to predictions.
The use of RFID tracking technology in food supply chains is predicted to increase rapidly in the coming years.
In its report RFID for Animals, Food and Farming, Bharatbook.com claims that food supply chains hold a number of potential applications that are likely to see widespread uptake in the near future.
They include pets and animal feeds - including the ability to track a particular pallet or case of food.
Meanwhile, the movement of animals themselves - in the form of livestock and related farming practices - is a further area for RFID uptake.
"The tagging of individual items will attract the most investment, benefiting all in the supply chain," the organisation reports.
"But tagging of conveyances, pallets, cases, vehicles and equipment will also be important."
The analyst previously called RFID a technology "whose time has come" in a forecast of uptake through to 2018 in the postal and courier industries.
