Supply chain services 'main use for RFID'

RFID is used more in supply chain services than in any other global industry.
Supply chain services are the single largest area in which radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is used globally, according to research.
A study from Bharatbook.com places the supply chain services industry ahead of all others in terms of the uptake of RFID.
This sees it rank above the postal and courier service - potentially because individual items are not yet commonly tagged.
However, Bharatbook.com anticipates that newly developed RFID systems in Korea could see mail become the largest area for the technology.
This is due to the benefits to be derived from moving over to an automatic system, rather than requiring bar codes to be scanned on each item of mail sent.
"RFID is an idea whose time has come in postal, courier and high volume light logistics," the analyst asserts.
Bharatbook.com recently reported that 13.56 MHz RFID technology is among the most mature as it has been under development for the longest time.
