Supply chains 'must be measured' to improve

Measuring elements such as workforce productivity is the only way to resolve supply chain issues, it is claimed.
Supply chain issues can only be resolved if processes can be measured, it has been claimed.
Mark Humphlett, director of global supply chain solutions marketing at software developer Infor, tells Supply Chain Standard of the importance of metrics for resolving supply chain issues.
"You cannot improve what you cannot measure," he tells the supply chain magazine.
"The warehouse has traditionally been an area of high costs and companies have not had visibility into the labour productivity that drives warehouse operations."
Now, however, Infor has released SCM Labour Management, which aims to provide insight into supply chain issues relating to workforce costs and productivity.
The product is designed as a complementary installation to Infor's existing SCM Warehouse Management solution.
In its online literature for SCM Warehouse Management, Infor reports expert claims that as many as one in five orders are filled incorrectly.
With its software in place, the company predicts productivity gains of up to 40 per cent and two to five per cent improvements in shipping accuracy.
