The broadcast face of the Tour de France hides a 3,500 km, 22-tonne supply chain challenge.

While television coverage of the Tour de France may focus on the cyclists competing for the famed yellow jersey, behind the scenes supply chain issues have been dealt with by one company for the past three decades.

Norbert Dentressangle has vanquished the event's supply chain issues as official logistics partner for more than 30 years, reports the Supply Chain Standard.

The publication adds that this is to continue for at least a further five years following an extension to the firm's partnership with the race's organiser, the Amaury Sport Organisation.

A total of 20 trucks and trailers manned by 33 drivers help Norbert Dentressangle to maintain pace with the competitors along the 3,500 km route.

Between each stage, the supply chain magazine adds, there is 22 tonnes of equipment to be transported.

Norbert Dentressangle was also recently revealed to be remaining as logistics manager for automotive coatings producer PPG in the UK, a role it has fulfilled since the company's acquisition of ICI Automotive Refinish in 1999.
