The global supply chain is under scrutiny as part of legislative changes in the US.

The US is looking to gain information from deeper into the world's supply chains, reports the Supply Chain Standard.

According to the supply chain magazine, organisations across the US face a race against time to comply with the incoming Secure Freight Initiative.

The nation's Customs and Border Protection Agency initiated a directive in January of 2009 to probe deeper into global supply chains, the article claims.

Bill Todd, business development manager for customs house brokerage at CargoWise edi, tells the supply chain magazine that it "is important for importers and customs brokers" to enter into the interim filing process as a matter of urgency.

He adds, however, that organisations which have already put software in place to meet the needs of the new initiative should not find compliance to be an issue.

Mr Todd was named business development manager for the firm in August of last year and is based in CargoWise edi's Chicago office.
