Jade Communications Launches Wireless Intrusion Prevention Service to Help Retailers Meet Latest PCI DSS Compliance Requirements

Jade Communications, one of the UK’s leading providers of mobile voice and data communications technologies for business, has launched a Wireless Intrusion Prevention Service utilising a range of tools including Motorola’s Air Defense technology to help retailers comply with the latest Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) for wireless networks.

Against the background of increasing payment card fraud, the new PCI DSS standards were published on 01 October 2008 and come fully into effect in 2010. The new standards require businesses to perform onsite audits and scans to test the vulnerability of wireless networks to ensure customers’ payment details are kept secure.

PCI is planning to raise card payment processing fees for non-compliant companies, while other penalties include fines of up to £250,000 for each instance of non-compliance, and a total bar on processing credit and debit card payments. Conversely there are financial incentives and advantageous costs from acquiring banks for compliant retailers. In 2007 over 45 million card details were compromised by hacking at TK Maxx, hugely damaging the retailer’s reputation and leaving it exposed to customer litigation.

“For a retailer with around 100 stores employing an auditor to prove PCI DSS compliance could cost between £60,000 and £100,000 a year,” says Dave Sharratt, Director of Jade Communications. “Our Wireless Intrusion Prevention Service can conduct network security audits, automatically compile reports and continually scan client networks 24/7/365 to keep networks secure and customers’ details safe.”

“It's not always easy to understand and keep track of what's out there on remote LAN's and many retailers lack the tools, resources and skills required, ” Sharratt continues. “PCI compliance places an obligation on organisations to regularly audit and monitor wireless connectivity to ensure the network remains secure when processing payments. Traditionally that requires physical site visits which can be very costly across an entire estate.”

Experienced, fully qualified Jade engineers deploy a range of specialised tools including Motorola’s Air Defense to audit retailers’ network infrastructure and implement a robust wireless intrusion prevention system with centralised monitoring and management capabilities. The Jade Wireless Intrusion Prevention Service is a highly cost-effective way to ensure ongoing full compliance with the latest PCI DSS standards. It comprises installation and ongoing support, with exception reporting and statistical record capturing for every location.
