The University of Northampton’s Business School recently
welcomed the first 25 employees from international road
transport and logistics company, Norbert Dentressangle,
onto its Foundation Degree in Leadership and Management.
Welcoming the first students onto the course is the
culmination of a 2-year relationship with Norbert
Dentressangle’s UK logistics division, which has seen
the University develop the new degree to meet the needs
of the organization.
Work-based learning is central to the ethos of the
programme and the course requires minimum levels of
absence from the workplace. Assessment is by way of
work-based projects that are relevant to the employee’s
organization and focus on improving day-to-day
performance. The first cohort of colleagues undertaking
this programme comprises talented first-line and middle
managers from a variety of management positions. They
have each been personally endorsed and supported by
their respective senior manager to help ensure that the
programme is successful at both an individual and an
organizational level.
Mark Simmons, HR Director, Norbert Dentressangle
Logistics UK, commented: "We are excited about this new
venture and pleased that our ongoing partnership with
the University continues to deliver cost-effective,
tailored, high-quality development programmes.” Dr Ian
Brooks, Dean of Northampton Business School, The
University of Northampton, added: “It is very rewarding
to see the first students starting on this course
following 2 years of relationship building and
development with Norbert Dentressangle. We wanted to get
the course absolutely right and we look forward to
seeing the first graduates coming through from this
Foundation degree.” The Foundation Degree in Leadership
and Management is the first Foundation degree in the UK
that incorporates the Institute of Leadership and
Management’s (ILM) Level 5 Extended Diploma in
Leadership and Management.
