Argos finds seasonal storage solution
Norbert Dentressangle has provided solutions to meet two very different seasonal storage challenges for leading multi-channel retailer Argos. With the ‘staycation’ seemingly here to stay, Norbert Dentressangle is currently providing specialist storage for around 180 pallets of bottled propane and butane gas in support of the 2010 camping season. In line with COMAH Regulations, product is stored in fireproof chambers with specialist lighting, ventilation, sensors and alarm system. The operation is manned by specially trained operatives and employs explosion proof trucks which also monitor the air and automatically shut down if flammable gas is detected.
The operation follows on from Norbert Dentressangle’s successful handling of the external storage operation in support of the 2009 Christmas peak, providing around 11,000 additional pallet spaces to accommodate the overflow of products including toys, Christmas trees and catalogues from Argos’s RDCs. The seasonal storage operation is part of a central procurement initiative aimed at freeing space due to challenging stock turnaround during the critical peak trading period. Norbert Dentressangle acted in a 4PL capacity, providing Argos with the optimal balance of cost, service and specialist expertise with the benefit of a single point of contact. In both cases, Norbert Dentressangle was able to develop bespoke solutions which met the specific requirements of two very different seasonal storage operations.
Bobby Clark, Distribution Strategic Planning Manager for Argos said: “From our first meeting, Norbert Dentressangle demonstrated a sound understanding of our immediate requirements and its ability to develop and implement cost-effective solutions to meet them. They have also shown a genuine willingness to ‘go the extra mile’ to support us in other ways, including the development of additional proposals to bring further value and improvements to our operation.” Through its work with major companies including Asda, B&Q, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Superdrug, Tesco and Wilkinson, Norbert Dentressangle has a long and successful track record in supporting its customers in periods of peak demand.
