Conference to examine changing risk landscape for European transportation firms

Marsh will host a conference on the changing risk landscape facing the European transportation sector, in Berlin, on 27-28 October 2010, at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

Among the major themes to be discussed at the conference are:

  • The future direction of risk management in the transportation sector
  • How the insurance industry is responding to the risks faced by transportation firms, such as exposure to natural catastrophes, terrorism, legal and regulatory issues and supply chain concerns
  • Risks associated with driver behaviour, including how to measure improvements and maintain a reliable and safe fleet
  • Challenges posed by climate change
  • Using risk management to optimise capital allocation and strengthen balance sheets
  • The role of IT in supporting risk management within the transportation industry

Wendy Chalkley, Deputy Leader of Marsh’s Transportation Practice for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, commented: “The European transportation sector was hit hard by the recession, and more recently, disruption caused by the Icelandic volcano eruption and ongoing air traffic disputes. These events have heightened awareness of the role that risk management can play in business resilience in the sector.

“Firms now need to seize the opportunity to be better prepared for new, emerging risks in order to maintain their competitiveness in the decade ahead. This conference will address the major issues affecting the industry.”
