Freight Transport Training for a Global Audience
Are you too busy to take time out from work for training? Do you want to develop your
employees without losing them to a classroom? A new distance learning course has been
released by IBC Global Academy that provides the answer. The Fundamentals of Freight
Transport is a 12-week course offering a thorough introduction to the freight transport sector –
totally delivered by distance learning. This unique programme starts on 6 July 2010 and has
just opened for enrolment at the IBC Global Academy.
Led by Stuart Emmett, a respected consultant and author of over 20 books on management
and supply chain topics, the Fundamentals of Freight Transport will benefit freight transport
users and operators alike, helping them make informed decisions about how they move
freight through the supply chain. “We all know that constructing a strong supply chain with efficient transport links is essential
for business success,” says Mr. Emmett. “Only those companies that build integrated, aligned
and coordinated supply chains with visibility will survive and thrive, especially in the current
challenging economic environment.”
“With the programme materials being delivered by distance learning, you can fit your studies
around your everyday activities at a pace and in a location convenient to you, allowing you to
invest in your future without having to leave your current role. The course has an online forum
so you can interact with fellow participants and share experiences and knowledge. You will
also benefit from expert online support from the dedicated course tutor.”
For anyone involved with or dependant on a supply chain, it is crucial to stay informed and
educated about this complex and ever-changing field. The Fundamentals of Freight Transport
is an essential introduction for professionals involved in transporting or shipping materials and
products by road, rail, sea or air, wherever they are in the world.
After a broad overview of the role of transport in trade and economies, the course introduces
the rules needed to ensure effective fit with supply chain management. Next, it looks at the
factors involved in selecting methods of transport and considers the key features of each
transport mode, including the different aspects found in freight calculations. It then continues
with an examination of the commercial considerations and the role of customs in international
trade before looking at aspects such as packing, security, customer service and added value;
before finally concluding with a view forward into developments and trends affecting the
industry’s future.
The Fundamentals of Freight Transport joins the Fundamentals of Freight Forwarding and the
Diploma in Logistics Management as currently enrolling courses from IBC Global Academy’s
logistics portfolio. The freight forwarding course provides a thorough grounding in this major
logistics function which is all too often taken for granted by many shippers. This 12 week
course will ensure freight forwarders and the users of their services gain the most from their
partnership. Students can obtain further details and enrol at
