DHL wins important Logistics Award in Italy
DHL Supply Chain Italy has won the 2009 Logistics Award in recognition of the company’s GoGreen program, aiming to improve carbon efficiency by 30 percent by 2020. The Logistics Awards are presented annually by the Italian logistics association ‘Assologistica’, logistics journal ‘Euromerci’ and the organization ‘Assologistica Cultura e Formazione’.
Deutsche Post DHL’s GoGreen program addresses the challenge of climate change and forms the basis for the company’s environmental involvement. The company aims to improve its carbon footprint for every letter and parcel sent, every tonne of cargo transported and every square meter of warehouse space used, by 30 percent by 2020. With this target the No. 1 global logistics company is the first major company in its industry to set a quantifiable climate protection target. “In alignment with Deutsche Post DHL’s strategy, DHL Supply Chain Italy – in cooperation with all DHL divisions in Italy - launched an environmental protection campaign, Green Choice,” said Vittorio De Amici, Operations Services and Solutions Vice President, who accepted the award on behalf of DHL Supply Chain Italy at a ceremony in Milan.
“Our Green Choice program promotes energy-saving behaviors and encourages our teams and employees to reduce the usage of resources, from electricity, water and fuel to stationery and mobile phones. The program is structured around Process Improvement Initiatives at national and site level, including an all-comprehensive energy saving program,” says De Amici, who also reminds us that ‘Climate Counts’, one of the largest American customer associations, has recognized Deutsche Post DHL’s GoGreen program as one of the most efficient and effective business tools for environmental protection.
