New to build Holland hub for DPD equipped with latest CROSSORTER 1500 by Vanderlande Industries

Dutch system integrator Vanderlande Industries and parcel and express service provider DPD have agreed on the implementation of a CROSSORTER 1500 sorter system for the new to build DPD Holland Hub in Veenendaal, the Netherlands.

99.9% Availability
The high-performance sortation system will play an integral role in the Holland Hub’s ‘green’ ambitions. The logistics hub and CROSSORTER 1500 are scheduled to be unveiled in May 2011. The CROSSORTER 1500 provides a highly flexible solution to handle products up to 1500 x 800 mm, including odd-shaped items with an availability of 99.9%.

Carbon neutral
DPD’s domestic parcel delivery volumes are growing at a rapid rate. Continuous increases in both B2B and B2C delivery in the Netherlands inspired the successful parcel delivery service provider to build a new hub centrally located in the Netherlands. The revolutionary DPD Holland Hub in Veenendaal will integrate both local depot and hub functions. The multifunctional facility will be built fully carbon neutral and is planned to be equipped with special heat pumps, innovative heat regaining systems and solar panels in order to make optimal use of energy efficiency solutions.

35,000 parcels per hour
Sustainable building technologies aside, the main focus at DPD will always remain on logistics and parcel delivery. With the implementation of the CROSSORTER 1500, Vanderlande Industries offers the DPD subsidiary a flexible and high-capacity sorting system, able to handle the mixed flows of both smaller and larger parcel products that come with the combined territory of B2B and B2C services. DPD aims to handle up to 35,000 parcels per hour at the Holland Hub.

“Our passion for performance and quality on the one hand and the strong desire to provide optimal cost efficiency for our customers on the other hand, makes the sorting process crucial in the success of our depots,” says Michael van Ooijen, CEO of DPD in the Netherlands.

Think green
The challenge for Vanderlande industries regarding the sorter belt requirements was evident: combine state-of-the-art technology with proven performance and energy efficiency. “Our success is founded on doing things right,” Van Ooijen continues. “The Holland Hub enables us to even up this performance level, whilst at the same time staying conscious of minimalising environmental impact. With the CROSSORTER 1500 we integrate maximum flexibility, conveyability and reliability, while also maintaining our cost effectiveness and thinking green.”

Sustainable design
The CROSSORTER 1500 is built using sustainable materials, consisting of technical or biological nutrients that are safe and healthy for humans and the environment. The results of this renewed design are remarkable since it consumes 80% less energy than conventional cross belt sorters, 99% of the materials are easy to dismantle and recycle, 90% of the materials used are environmental-friendly and the number of parts is reduced to an absolute minimum.
